Support video on Emetophobia fear of being sick/vomit – recognising when to take action

The video below is an support video for people going through The Thrive Programme to overcome their fear of being sick/seeing others vomiting. The manual they are using is called ‘Cure your emetophobia and thrive‘ – which is available from this website. (There is also a teenagers with emetophobia version of the book)

The Thrive Programme is the most successful and predictable cure for emetophobia and is fully backed up by scientific research. In our own research survey, all 164 participants overcame their fear of being sick. The programme was created by Rob Kelly – a therapist with over 30 years clinical experience – who has helped thousands of people to overcome their fear of being sick, and live happy, fulfilled lives.

This video helps describe when a client needs to be putting in effort, whilst working hard with The Thrive Programme, when they are starting to feel down, they perhaps aren’t putting the effort in to overcome any issues.

Rob is explaining with a short presentation and is using graphs to show the ups and downs of the person, when they are starting to go down hill and he highlights to you when to start taking action. The graph shows a persons mood swings or self-esteem. The points shown on the graph in x’s at the point when they start to take action or when mood starts to go downhill. They start to worry about the past or negative thinking styles that affect them.

If they are not recognising when they start to go downhill – that is the point when they need to take action. Perhaps do the dream technique, go for a run do anything that recognises that what they are doing will continue on this path.

Rob uses the black and white marble metaphor, (black marbles being a negative / white marbles for a positive) if you have more white marbles in your jar its very easy to think white marbles when you are surrounded by white marbles in a positive scenario such as being on holiday you’re relaxed and having a nice time. Its harder to think in a positive mood when you are feeling low and surrounded by black marbles thats why its easier to maintain a good mood when you’ve got it. Remember it takes far more effort to feel depressed than to does to be happy, it takes far more effort to have low self-esteem that to have high self-esteem.

We want people to recognise that point when they start to go downhill, when they start to feel depressed at that very moment to do something to change this. Not do anything you will continue to go on a downwards spiral. Overcome your emetophobia and thrive!
