Episode 3 · The Emetophobia Podcast
Why you can’t fail to overcome emetophobia with this programme
You cannot go back to 0%. Every insight you gain, you keep.
In today’s episode, we’re diving into the important discussion about why you can’t fail to overcome emetophobia with this programme — why, essentially, you have nothing to lose. If you’re apprehensive about getting started, or waiting for the right moment, then please do have a listen.
From our research, the number one reason why sufferers of emetophobia are afraid to start our programme (or any other treatment or programme) is because they are afraid that they will fail. But guess what? With our programme you cannot fail to overcome your emetophobia!
Let’s put ourselves into an emetophobia sufferer’s shoes for a second. It makes complete sense that they have this belief, because they don’t see the phobia as a result of a number of unhelpful thinking styles, beliefs, cognitive distortions, attitudes and behaviours that are creating their phobia. To them, it’s very much something that is ‘happening to them’.
The ingredients of a cake
“You cannot just go back to 0% if you put the programme back down, because you have already learnt those new insights.”
Rob KellySo naturally they see going through the programme in a very black and white way — pass or fail. If we look at emetophobia like a cake, it has lots of different ingredients that make it a cake. But the problem is, you don’t actually know what ingredients made that cake.
Let’s say you pick the programme up and read the first couple of chapters and then tuck it away under your bed again. You still haven’t failed! What you have done is gain a few new insights into how that cake was made — you’re no worse off. Even if you didn’t pick that programme back up for another few months, you just need to continue to read it again and you will continue to learn more insights.
You may only get 10% better by reading the first couple of chapters, and maybe you won’t get another 10% further along that line until you read the next one, but at least you’re 10% closer than you were before. You cannot just go back to 0% if you put the programme back down, because you have already learnt those new insights!
It’s really that predictable. It’s like being on a journey from Cambridge to London: if you’re on the M11 and you’re heading south, it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are travelling, as you are travelling in the right direction. It’s inevitable that sooner or later you’re going to arrive at London. If you work hard and apply our programme every day, it’s inevitable that you are going to start thriving, build great mental health, and overcome your phobia.
