Podcast : Breaking Generations of Silence and Stigma: Grandmother Deb’s Journey to Freedom from Emetophobia
‘Don’t be embarrassed by anything, because this is a real thing, and you are not the only one suffering!’ are the supportive words of advice from long-term Emetophobia sufferer and Grandmother Deb.
Deb first remembers struggling with the phobia as a young child. During her childhood, Deb experienced her father suffering with the same fear. She also recognised his resistance to seeking any help for fear of ridicule, judgment and shame. Deb remembers her Emetophobia worsening as she became a mother and again when she became a grandmother.
During life with emetophobia, Deb struggled with appointments, caring for her children/grandchildren, fear of passing out, and many other emetophobia related symptoms!
Deb describes trying various therapies before discovering the Emetophobia-free programme. Despite improving her anxiety, she recognised that the emetophobia remained dominant in her mind.
Following the programme, Deb recognised an intense improvement in her life. Once finding out that a guest had been unwell in her home, she was able to calmly handle it! Before the programme, she would have catastrophised and created intense anxiety. Instead, she recognised her ability to cope, face her reality, and control the anxiety she was creating!
In Deb’s experience, despite being sceptical of the process, she recognises the true skill set she has gained. By using her knowledge, experience, and the podcasts, she was able to completely transform her life!
Following the Emetophobia-Free programme, Deb experienced a special memory with her grandson which was a life changing moment for her. She was able to spend quality time with him, enjoy food with him, and handle the possibility of sickness; something that was impossible previously. Deb has been able to return to caring for her grandchildren and has also found her true self because of the programme!
This episode featured discussion between Michelle Johnson, Lauren Singer and, of course, Deb!
