Complex Emetophobia Recovery...

'Complex emetophobia' is usually considered to be emetophobia plus any one - or more - of the following: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Autism, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Anorexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Depersonalisation-derealisation Disorder (DDD).

Here at Emetophobia-Free, we have hundreds of reviews, both written and recorded testimonies, that contain the detailed journies of ex-emetophobes who have become completely phobia-free after completing our programme. Most can be labeled as 'standard' emetophobes, (those who emetophobia was less severe, although just as impactful, as others) and their 6-8 week transformations can be viewed throughout our website and social media channels.

There are some, however, whose emetophobia and journey to becoming free of it, can be described as more complex. These complex cases are an interesting watch as they show that even those who think they're 'the worst case ever' are just as able to completely overcome emetophobia.Some of these complex cases have kindly recorded their reviews to explain just how they did it. Complex Emetophobia ...

Emetophobia , even in the very best of cases, is a complicated phobia. It is one of the most impactful phobias and can destroy lives like no other.  However, in a few cases it can be much more complex than ordinarily so. This does not mean that these cases are a lost-cause or that they cannot overcome their phobia, it simply means that they may take a little longer or that they may have to work a little harder than expected.

In these complex cases it may be that there are other factors involved in the symptom than just the fear of being sick. These other factors can be, but certainly aren't limited to;

having eating disorders alongside emetophobia
hospitalisation
previous admission to clinics such as The Priory
those who have other illnesses that are compounded by the emetophobia

These additional factors can sometimes render the case a little more complex than usually so but it is crucial to understand that complex cases, despite being more complicated, are still very much able to go through the programme and become 100% free of emetophobia. All of the steps are the same but the process may well be a little slower than normal.

Daisy talking about her experience with various forms of therapy for her emetophobia

"The Thrive Programme is different because it gives you the psychological knowledge that you don't get with other treatments like CBT. It's all about seeing yourself for who you really are and then working on things you need to improve (to beat your phobia) instead of looking at how awful and negative things are. It was really amazing."
